A Garage Cleaning Weekend
A cluttered garage is a place that can potentially be lethal. Many tools can be stuffed in a garage, and if these sharp and heavy objects fall, someone can get hurt or a car can get damaged. There can be toxic substances, too. So, before people or vehicles get hurt, it is best to undertake a major cleaning of your garage.
Various items inside a garage often belong to different family members. You will find paper archives, sports equipment, toys, automotive supplies, house cleaning materials, camping gear and other things. This is why it is important for the whole family to clean the garage together. Set aside a weekend when all of you can do this.
The first thing you have to do is to empty your garage. Park all the cars outside your house or ask a neighbour if you can park your car in his extra space for the weekend. Then, begin taking out the items one by one. Remember to be extra careful with liquids and machinery.
The items you find will fall into any one of three categories. They will be considered trash if they are obsolete and/or rendered unusable due to missing or damaged parts. On the other hand, if they are still in good condition but you have no use for them, set them aside so you can donate them to a charity. Lastly, you will want to keep some useful things. These things may be in good condition or damaged but can still be repaired.
Once everything has been removed from the garage, it is time to get on your hands and knees and clean. Sweep, scrub, mop and wash. Finally, return the useful items to your garage. Place labels on containers, shelves and cabinet doors so you will know where each item goes.
